Where to buy a Sim Card in Curaçao

BUY A SIM CARD IN CURACAO

Curaçao has two mobile telephone operators offering prepaid services:
– Digicel Curaçao
– Flow/Chippie Curaçao (formerly known as UTS Curaçao)
The following frequencies are used in Curaçao:
– 2G: 900 MHz and 2100 MHz
– 3G: 850 MHz and 2100 MHz
– 4G/LTE: 1800 (Band 3)

If your cell phone is unlocked or with open bands, you will be able to insert either SIM card and start calling or activating the Internet immediately.

If your phone is not unlocked, you will not be able to use any SIM card other than that of your home operator (which means you will have to roam internationally or buy another unlocked phone that does support the frequencies listed above).

In summary, the two options to make calls at local cost or activate a data plan will be to get a Digicel or Chippie SIM card.

The following is a breakdown of the most relevant information on these two telephone operators:

DIGICEL:

This operator has a 4G/LTE network for its customers in band 3 (1800 MHz). It operates in both Curaçao and Bonaire. The quality of the network is generally quite good. Some beaches in the northwestern part of Curaçao are mostly not covered by the 4G/LTE network. On cloudless days, the network can even be received in Klein Curaçao (which is about 11 km off the coast of Curaçao).

You can get a Digicel SIM card for 25 ANG with 250 MB of data, 25 on-net minutes and 25 on-net SMS at Digicel stores or reseller outlets, including electronics stores. They are also available at the Curaçao/Willemstad (Hato) International Airport (CUR). Just outside the arrivals hall.

Short-term visitors and tourists can also obtain Digicel Paradise SIM cards, Digicel’s tourist offer.

There are 2 Digicel Paradise SIM cards:

Seven (7) days in Paradise: ANG 53.40 ($30)
Fourteen (14) days in Paradise: ANG 89.00 ($50)

Chippie has extensive coverage in Curaçao. It is better than Digicel Curaçao in some locations, especially in the north of the island.

The FLOW Tourist SIM can be purchased at all Flow stores and is available with a data quota of 1 GB or 3 GB.
